Following the recommendation of a good friend, we made a reservation for dinner at
La Grenouille. Soggy and city-worn after a day of shopping in a steady downpour, we stumbled into one of the finest restaurants in NYC. We should have known that we were, at best, underdressed after the response from the french gentleman we randomly selected to ask directions."Good for You!". If we were the country mice coming to the city, you would have never known from the reaction of the gracious and welcoming staff. So happy that my fifteen year old daughter experienced the best New York has to offer and that she can return to this memory as trendy replaces iconic.
Since my return home, I have spent much time learning about La Grenouille and it's history. Charles Masson opened La Genouille in 1962, the year I was born. The restaurant is not only known for the authentic french cuisine but also the elaborate and lavish flowers that adorn the restaurant. I also discovered that the story of the restaurant and its beautiful flowers is available in a book,
The Flowers of La Grenouille.
